Back Orifice or BO is a Win32 based Trojan program. This trojan can affect Windows 95 and Windows 98 system. It does not work on Windows NT. Back Orifice trojan needs to be executed by the user for it to be installed. Once executed by the user it will install itself in such a way that it will be active all the time. Back Orifice adds an entry to the Windows Registry to achieve this. The presence of Back Orifice installed in the computer will not be evident to the affected user. The size of this trojan file is 124,928 bytes. It can also be slightly more than this size.

You will not get infected by Back Orifice merely by downloading the file or receiving it by email. You will have to execute it to get infected.

Back Orifice ( BO ) is a remote administration trojan program similar to Netbus. While you are connected to the internet, if this program is running on your computer anyone from anywhere who has got the Back Orifice Client program can sneak in to your computer without your permission or knowledge. The remote hacker can get any information from your computer including your passwords. He can execute programs in your computer, copy files, read your email, plant other trojans or viruses, monitor the keystrokes you type and a lot more. This will cause a serious security risk to the affected user.

Back Orifice first appeared in August 1998 and it is reported to have affected a lot of users.
