APStrojan is a Win95 trojan. This trojan can infect Windows 98 systems. It can also infect Windows 95 system, provided a file, MSVBVM50.DLL is present.

This is a password stealing trojan, which targets America Online client software. On execution, the trojan tries to send the stolen information to the author of the trojan.

APStrojan is distributed through email, with the subject, 'hey you', and with an attachment titled MINE.EXE.

When the infected attachment is executed, it alters the file WIN.INI and system registry. It copies the following four files to the local system

c:\msdos98.exe
c:\WINDOWS\uninstallms.exe
c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\mine.exe
c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ReadMe.Txt

In WIN.INI it alters run entry by inserting

run=c:\windows\uninstallms.exe

and the windows registry will be modified to load the trojan at the startup.

APStrojan first appeared in January 2000.
