W32/Lewor.N Worm

 Information about the W32/Lewor.N Worm:

W32/Lewor.N is a worm. The worm will infect Windows systems and spreads through MSN Messenger. The worm also attemps to download and execute a worm.

Upon execution, the worm drops the copies of itself as svohost.exe, lsasa.exe and prnit.exe in the Windows System folder.

It alters the windows registry at the following location to load itself during next startup;

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

It also creates following mutex to check the presence of the worm in the system memory.

To propagate itself, the worm spreads through MSN Messenger by sending a message containing a link that leads to a copy of itself to the users in the contact list of the infected system. The following are some of the links where this worm is downloaded;

The worm is capable of disabling the Task Manager in the infected system.

The worm also change the home page of the Internet Explorer to http://www.joyiex.com in the infected system.

This worm first appeared on September 8, 2005.
