Scrambler virus infects all 32 bit Windows Executable (EXE) files under Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT and Windows 2000 systems with worm characteristics. This virus spreads through email and MIRC. The infected file - "scrambler.vbs" comes as an email attachment with a subject being:

The mail will not have any contents. Opening the infected file launches the worm by displaying a message.

Scrambler first copies itself into the Windows System directory and the file name will be of 5 random characters choosen from a-j. Later the virus infects all the EXE files. This infection routine has dropper charectorstics which makes the infected files non-repairable. It creates a MIRC chat script automatically in order to spread itself. This virus also creates "scrambler.vbs" under the Windows system directory and sends messages automaticaly to the recipients found in the address book of MS-Outlook . This virus also creates the SCRAM.SYS file and stores the following message :

After execution the the worm creates "Winstart.bat" under the Windows folder. During next startup, Windows dispalys a message:
